For congestion, sinusitis and chronic colds alike, inhalation of saline solutions or medication in a nebuliser combined with an inhalation device is an especially effective treatment.
For centuries it has been known that salty air, like sea air, has a soothing and calming effect on our airways. It stimulates our airway’s natural cleaning function and helps loosen the mucus in the nose and lungs. Thanks to modern inhalation devices and saline solutions for inhalation, you can bring the benefits of the sea air to your own home. Furthermore, in consultation with a doctor, mixtures of medications or medication and isotonic saline solutions (carrier solution) can be inhaled.
For inhalation with PARI inhalation devices and nebulisers you do not need to be able to breathe in forcefully, nor do you need any particular skill. This is particularly beneficial for children, people with limited hand mobility or the elderly. This means that for inhalation with a nebuliser calm and relaxed is sufficient. Many patients think that one has to breathe in quickly and forcefully when using an inhalation device. This only applies to the use of dry-powder inhalers. And when you are inhaling using a metered-dose inhaler, you have to breathe in deeply as you press down on the inhaler because the drug otherwise will not be released at all. Nebuliser therapy is easier: Sit up straight and relaxed. Breathe in and out calmly. Ideally, breathe as you would normally. This way less of the medication ends up in your throat, and reaches your lungs where it is needed.
Do you have the feeling that the mouthpiece is “blocked” and you are getting too little aerosol? Then simply breathe in a little slower, which is better for the therapy. PARI can help you do this with a feedback system known as PIF-control (PIF = Peak Inspiratory Flow). PIF-control is integrated into PARI BOY, PARI BOY Year Pack S and PARI LC Sprint Star. COPD patients can use PIF-control to possibly prevent the small bronchial tubes from collapsing. If you feel resistance, exhale calmly and with the next inhalation breathe in more slowly.
The PARI PEP S system also help with your breathing. As with physiotherapy, you can loosen even mucus that is firmly lodged in the bronchial tubes. The PARI PEP S system can be very easily attached onto the PARI nebulisers, so that inhalation therapy and PEP respiration can be performed at the same time. How does it work? The resistance of the PEP systems generates counter pressure when you exhale. This allows more medication to enter your peripheral airways when you are inhaling. It is easier to cough up mucus and to exhale more air out of your lungs.
